Smucci™ Ginkgo Bed

It is fascinating that something so beautiful in nature can possess incredible strength. The fragile beauty of the Ginkgo tree’s leaves juxtaposed with the enormous strength and longevity of this ancient tree has kept me puzzled and intrigued. So much so, that I felt compelled to capture its' image forever as an original Smucci Fabric. Mid summer, bright apple green, fan shaped leaves were collected from my young ginkgo tree and thoughtfully arranged by my son, Jamie. After being photographed, the image was transferred to fabric and mac-tac for Smucci™ pet beds.
The box style bed cushion sits inside a handmade, hand painted hardwood bed frame, wrapped in the detailed Smucci Green Ginkgo image reproduced on high quality, durable mac tac, with gloss white feet for support. The top side of the pet cushion is made of original Green Ginkgo fabric and soft white, curly minky is used for the sides and bottom. All fabric is 100% polyester, machine washable in cold water with mild detergent and dryable on low heat. Practical and beautiful, all Smucci pet cushions are sewn by a local artist with incredible care and expertise.

The small, zippered bed cushion is filled with one standard size, down substitute pillow. Medium bed cushions contain two king pillows, and large cushions hold three queen size pillows. We like the individual, down substitute pillow idea because it works! The pillows are soft, wash without clumping, fit into your machine, and are easily replaceable if excessively soiled.

Smucci™ Beach Bed

Sleeping on a Smucci Beach is just like being surrounded by all the natural elements found along the shore...seashells and seaweed left behind as waves crash and return to the sea, tiny leaves blown from nearby trees, and a feather that drops from a bird meandering along the sand... Smucci Beach was created to take us back to family vacations spent at the shore and to remind us of simpler times, when everything feels right and we are the most in touch with ourselves.

We scooped up sand from the beach where we live, along with all the natural elements we could find to create the image that is used on custom Smucci Beach Fabric.

Smucci™ Fall Leaves Bed

In autumn the earth is warm beneath your feet, and the wind is cool upon your face…
Remember falling into a pile of freshly raked fall leaves and burying yourself with your dog, beneath the musty smell… hoping never to be discovered? The intense contrast between internal warmth and the foreboding cool of northern air is a feeling I treasure and have sought to capture for everyone’s enjoyment.
The complex juxtaposition of autumn is revealed in a photograph of fall leaves by Paul Clark, president of SFC Graphics, and has been graciously donated to ddkdesigns for use as a Smucci Fabric.
The cool blue tones mixed with hot pink and orange hues illicits a special feeling that reminds us of simpler times.

Smucci™ Feather Bed

Smucci Feather Fabric captures the exquisite color and detail of actual bird feathers, those of my two Macaws Suki and Chica. Hundreds of feathers were collected over time and used to create this colorful fabric. The intrinsic beauty of a simple feather is preserved forever and splashed all over fabric for us to enjoy. And how humorous to see our pets sleeping on a pile of bird feathers! Talk about the cat who ate the canary, but didn’t in this case!

Smucci™ Beach Cradle Bed

Aside from gathering seashells as I walk along the shore, I am notorious for dragging home any piece of driftwood I can find! It's journey unknown to me, I speculate that it drifted from a boat shipwrecked at sea and wonder how many countless miles it traveled before becoming my proclaimed treasure!

The Smucci Beach Cradle embodies the mystery of unknown journeys and inspires us with wonder. The distressed pine frame is carefully sanded smooth, stained, and then whitewashed for a naturally distressed finish. The entire bed is sealed with an acrylic glaze which makes clean up a breeze. Simply wipe with a damp cloth.

The floppy pillow combines Smucci Beach Fabric, and all of its beautiful natural elements, with the irresistable softness of white minky and gives this bed authentic appeal! Spread across the bottom and sides of this cozy bed, the down substitute filled pillow can be flipped according to your pet's preference! My cats prefer the soft minky side up, while my two papillions jump in together... Smucci Beach Fabric side up! Machine wash in cold water with mild detergent. Dry or fluff in low heat.

Smucci™Manger Bed

In ancient times, handfuls of soft hay were carefully arranged in a cradle, which provided coziness and warmth for nesting. Artfully replicated, the custom Smucci Hay Fabric pillow rests languidly within the Manger Bed, and surrounds and comfortably hugs our beloved pets.

The Manger was designed and engineered by my nephew, Tim, and tweaked until it became the perfect nest for pets seeking enclosed comfort. Hand built, one at a time, from distressed and knotty pine which is stained and sealed, this bed captures the authenticity of an antique cradle. I have several Manger Beds sitting around in my home which are always occupied by my cats and smaller dogs! It's a great bed for smaller pets because it lifts them high enough off the ground (approximately 10 inches) so they feel safe, and the angled walls provide coziness and protection. My pets absolutely love this bed!

The floppy pillow is hand sewn with Smucci Hay Fabric and soft chocolate brown minky fabric. Three rows of fabulous fringe add textural appeal and simulate real hay! Down substitute is used for fill which maintains its softness, even after repeated washings. Machine washable with a mild detergent in cold water, and dry or fluff in low heat.

There is a wonderfully indisputable and loving quality about this bed! Its cradling effect combined with the softness of the custom hay pillow is both irresistible and beautiful.
