Smucci™ Matisse Bed

Henri Matisse, the French artist known for his brilliant use of color, painted Woman Sleeping on the Corner of a Table in 1939. The woman in the painting appears as if she has fallen asleep suddenly, perhaps during the middle of her day. There is a slight smile on her face which suggests she did not fall asleep from exhaustion or stress, but rather intended to merely take a “cat nap.” This bed literally surrounds our pets with one big, beautiful, and very colorful hug as they sleep without fear of any kind.

The Smucci Matisse Bed's soft, sculptural shape is truly a work of art. Hand cut wooden walls are carefully curved and attached to a solid wood base.Hours of plastering and sanding create the smooth finish upon which a representation of Matisse's masterpiece is hand painted. A final coat of acrylic glaze is brushed over the entire bed which seals it, protecting the bed from dampness. A damp cloth is all you need to wipe the surfaces clean. A thin strip of black vinyl, which is actually an industrial strength auto trim, is applied to the upper edge of the curved wall for definition and added strength. We glue it on to the finished piece, and love the way it looks and performs!

Each Smucci Matisse Bed is created one at a time, and no two beds are exactly alike. Variations will occur which contribute to the intrinsic beauty and overall feel of this exquisite masterpiece for your pet!

Hand sewn one at a time with care and expertise, the round black and white minky "Zzzzz" cushion is filled with down substitute and rests perfectly within the bed frame. Practical and beautiful, the cushion is machine washable in cold with a mild detergent and may be dried or fluffed in low heat.

Ballet is strength equivalent to steel, tempered with the refinement of pure grace. The incredible discipline and physical demands of classical ballet training are incomparable to any other form of athletic endeavor in terms of difficulty, strength, stamina, and cognitive requirements. The Smucci™ Ballerina Bed is a tribute to my experience as a ballerina, which has served me well in all areas of my life. To emanate brute force while maintaining delicacy is the concept I grew up with, and still carry with me today.

The power we have to gently protect the pets we love is exquisitely expressed in this uniquely beautiful bed. All custom Smucci Pet Beds are completely hand made by me, my son, and a talented Michigan finish carpenter. We work as a team to get it done, beautifully, for you! The bed frame is constructed from solid wood and the rose crown mold, painted ballet slipper pink and whitewashed slightly, was purposefully placed within the bed's interior space for your pet's enjoyment! The exterior of the bed is hand painted in rich aqua green, a custom blended paint color just for Smucci pet beds. Hand stensilling with silver leaf finishes the delicate exterior, along with a pale pink tulle skirt which flows from beneath the bed.

The generous sized, hand sewn soft minky throw is available in two fabulous color choices and textures. Pale pink minky has a soft, smooth feel, and is accentuated with white trim around the edges of the blanket. White, curly minky is equally soft, but has a more textural feel for pets who really want to nestle in, and has a pale pink edge detail. Either choice is sure to make your pet feel like a prima ballerina, and completely loved!
Machine washable with mild detergent in cold water. Dry or fluff in low heat.
